Our emergency-trained staff will deliver fast, expert treatment for life-threatening illnesses, complex injuries and other serious health conditions. Our combined emergency room (ER) and urgent care facility will give you access to any level of medical care you or your loved one needs.
What Does an Emergency Room Treat?
Our emergency medicine providers will treat life-threatening illnesses and injuries around the clock, every day of the year. You shouldn't ignore certain medical conditions — like infections, high fevers, concussion and others — because they can worsen without proper treatment.
Some of the most common life-threatening emergencies include:
- Choking
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Head and neck injuries
- Poisoning
- Seizure
- Severe chest pain
- Stroke
- Sudden weakness or the inability to walk or move
We also treat non-life-threatening emergencies, such as abdominal pain, serious cuts or burns, broken bones and other orthopedic injuries.
What to Expect When You Arrive
Once you arrive, our emergency care team will ask questions about your reason for coming, medications, allergies and medical history. We'll take your vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperature.
After we assess your needs and medical priority, we may bring you into the treatment area or direct you to the waiting area. Patients will receive medical attention based on necessity, rather than the order of arrival. However, you can expect shorter wait times with us than at most ERs.
On-Site Testing & Diagnostics
During a medical emergency, every minute counts. Our on-site lab testing and advanced imaging services will allow us to quickly and accurately diagnose your condition, so we can begin treatment right away. Plus our facility will have state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment on-site, including X-ray, CT and ultrasound.
Our providers are board certified and have the experience your family needs during an emergency. We'll treat adults and children of all ages. Beaufort Memorial will operate the only combined emergency and urgent care clinic on Hilton Head Island. If you only need urgent care services, you'll pay the lower urgent care fee.
