Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your most common questions.

What’s the difference between an emergency room and urgent care?

An emergency room (ER) treats serious or life-threatening conditions that need immediate attention, such as chest pain, severe abdominal pain, dehydration or complex fractures. Urgent care is designed for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including common colds, flu, strep throat, minor cuts and other everyday health concerns.

Both emergency and urgent care services will be offered at Beaufort Memorial Emergency & Urgent Care on Hilton Head Island.

Are you open 24 hours?

Yes. Once our facility opens, emergency services will be available 24/7. Urgent care hours will hours will be determined closer to opening in January 2027.

What does in-network and out-of-network mean?

For urgent care services at Beaufort Memorial Emergency & Urgent Care in Hilton Head, being in-network means we have a contract with your insurance company that sets the agreed-upon cost for your care. Being out-of-network means we don't have that contract, so your insurance company and benefit plan determine the rate you're billed.

For emergency care, state and federal law require us to treat every patient regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Because of this, your insurance company should treat your visit as in-network, and you'll be billed the amount defined by your insurance plan.

Do you accept walk-ins at your facility?

Yes! We will accept walk-ins at our Hilton Head location.
